Golgotha
by Theo Buitendyk
October 26, 1998

A picture of the plight of man -
this bony hill where crosses stand
transfixed between the earth and sky -
this place to where despair must fly
and drain to dregs of bitter truth
mankind's rebellious, wasted youth.

Not just a man sent by our God -
but God himself - beneath the rod
of suffering that we ought own;
yet here we sit on wicked thrones
as if to say that we suffice
to judge the one who gives us life!

And as his silent sufferings rise
they smite the sun and dim the skies -
how vast this torment of our God,
how great the weight, how cruel the rod!
And yet it is his own good choice -
our Living Love, Defending Voice.

It is the symbol of our race -
suspended in an empty place,
three dying from the bite of sin:
one man who loves the lie within,
one man who sees and clings to grace,
and one with love upon his face.

The Meaning of Life
by Aaron Isaac Guadarrama

The state of being alive, to function, and grow, what Webster would explain.
But let me give you a different meaning, a different approach.
Of how the meaning of your life could possibly change the way you live today.
For it all started in the Garden of Eden I'm sure you've heard the story of Adam and Eve.
But if you haven't then listen to these words so carefully.
There was a Garden so beautiful beyond our imagination.
With every tasteful fruit there possible, to eat and enjoy for their good pleasure.
Where pure gold, rare rubies and stones where easy to find.
And all sorts of beautiful animals large and small tamed of every kind.
In the middle of the beautiful Garden stood the Tree of Life.
And also there stood beside, was also the Tree of Wrong and Right.
The days are cool, call it an oasis or paradise,
The smell of rare perfumes carried by the wind,
As the feeling of the warm breeze blew in Adam and Eve's faces,
Over looking the horizon, what a sight that must have been.
The flowers that blossomed in perfect harmony,
With awesome colors that you couldn't find anywhere.
Birds that sang so heavenly,
The meaning of life here in the Garden was love, joy, and peace, and it all flowed perfectly together.
How beautiful it must have been to see the crystal clear rivers that flowed to the Garden.
Yes, husband and wife would have a perfect relationship together, love made truly in heaven.
But most important, they had the meaning of life; they had true peace with the Creator, Father God.
A relationship with Him that could of last forever, but they both did something terribly wrong.
Because their lives would end in tragedy, changing the course of all humanity,
For they would be removed from the heart of God, from life in the Garden.
Their disobedience by eating the forbidden fruit tree, of knowledge of good and evil,
The crafty Serpent, who was Satan, deceived them; Adam and Eve have now sinned.
But God had a different plan; he needed a living sacrifice.
Sent His only Son into the world to die on the cross, that was Jesus Christ.
For He wanted that relationship to be restored, that was broken from Adam and Eve.
So we can live once again with Him forever in the Garden for eternity.
Though we did not earn nor did we deserve the mercy that was given.
But the Heavenly Father truly loves us and by his grace we are forgiven.

And now it all comes down to this my friend, what direction is your life heading?
Do you know the true meaning of life; do you know where you are going?
For Jesus is the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Him.
Jesus is the real reason for the meaning of Life, for He died for our sins.
You must accept Jesus in your heart as your Lord and Savior,
If you ever want to walk in the Garden, for soon you will run out of time.
And the meaning of your life will soon forever be forgotten,
So what is the meaning of life?
It is Jesus Christ; and he is your only way to the Garden.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life!" Jesus answered.
"Without me, no one can go to the Father."

I Did Not Pray
by Chris Dickens

I did not pray on Monday; I had so much work to do.
Tuesday was so hectic that I hardly thought of You.

I didn't pray on Wednesday; I was in such a frightful mood.
Thursday I had to worry about the bills that are past due.

I did not pray on Friday; I needed time just to unwind.
On Saturday I did my chores that had fallen behind.

I skipped church on Sunday, and Your face I failed to seek
for I stayed in bed to catch up on some much needed sleep.

Then I wondered how into my life so much sin could creep.
The answer: no prayer for seven days truly makes one weak.

I hope that this poem will inspire you and others to pray to our Lord Jesus
Christ on a daily basis. May God bless you.

Ode to God
by Betsi Freeman

When writing a poem to you
there can be no exaggeration
For you are Alpha and Omega
The beginning and summation

You are existence, love and light
You are the author of all that's true
No imitation on this earth
can begin to speak of You

The more I learn of Your nature
The less I realize I know
This adventure is all-consuming
And I'm all too glad to go!

Thanks for being you, Oh God
Oh God your wisdom is supreme
your salvation is perfect
like the ultimate wonderful dream.

Pizza, Party, and a Moonlit Ride
Author Unknown

Jenny was so happy about the house that they had found
For once in her life it was on the right side of town.
She unpacked her things with such great ease,
As she watched her curtains blow in the breeze.

How wonderful it was to have her own room ~
School would be starting, she would have friends over soon.
There would be sleep-overs and parties ~ she was so happy
It's just the way she wanted her life to be.

On the first day of school, everything went great ~
She made new friends and even got a date!
She thought, "I want to be popular and I am going to be ~
Because I just got a date with the star of the football team!"
To be recognized in this school you have to have clout,
and dating this guy would help her out.
There was only one problem stopping her fate
her parents said she was too young to date.
"Well, I won't tell them the entire truth.
They won't know the difference ~ what's there to lose?"
Jenny asked to stay with her friends that night,
her parents frowned and said, "All Right."

Excited, she got ready for the big event,
but as she rushed around like she had no sense,
She began to feel guilty about all the lies ~
But, what is a pizza, a party, and a moonlit ride?

Well, the pizza was good, and the party went great,
but the moonlit ride would have to wait ~
For Jeff was half drunk by this time ~
but he kissed her and said that he was just fine.
Then the room filled with smoke and Jeff took a puff.
Jenny couldn't believe he was smoking that stuff.

Now, Jeff was ready to ride to the point ~
but, only after he had smoked another joint.
They jumped in the car for the moonlit ride,
not thinking that he was too drunk to drive.
They finally made the point at last,
and Jeff started to make a pass.

A pass is not what Jenny wanted at all,
(and by a pass, I don't mean playing football).
"Perhaps my parents were right ... maybe I am too young.
Boy, how could I be so dumb?"
She used all her might to push Jeff away ~
"Please take me home, I don't want to stay."

Jeff cranked up the car and floored the gas.
In a matter of seconds they were going too fast.
As Jeff drove off in a fit of anger,
Jenny knew her life was in danger.
She begged and pleaded for him to slow down,
but he just got faster as they neared the town.

"Just let me get home! I'll confess that I lied,
I really went out for a moonlit ride."
Then all of a sudden, she saw a big flash ~
"Oh, God, Please help us! We're going to crash!"
She doesn't remember the force of the impact ~
just everything all of a sudden went black.
She felt someone remove her from the twisted rubble
and heard, "Call an ambulance! These kids are in trouble!"

Voices she heard ... a few words at best ~
but she knew there were two cars involved in the wreck.
Then wondered to herself if Jeff was alright,
and if the people in the other car were alive.

She awoke in the hospital to faces so sad ~
"You've been in a wreck and it looks pretty bad."
These voices echoed inside of her head
as they gently told her that Jeff was dead.
They said, "Jenny, we've done all we can do
but it looks as if we'll lose you too."

"But, the people in the other car!" Jenny replied.
"We're sorry, Jenny, they also died."
Jenny prayed, "Please God, forgive me for what I've done ~
I just wanted to have one night of fun."

"Tell those people's family, I've made their lives dim
and I wish I could return their families to them."
"Tell Mom and Dad that I am sorry I lied ~
And that it's my fault so many have died.
Oh, nurse, won't you please tell them that for me?"
The nurse just stood there ~ she never agreed.
But took Jenny's hand with tears in her eyes
And a moment later Jenny died.

A man asked the nurse, "Why didn't you do your best
to bid that girl's last request?"
She looked at him with eyes so sad
"Because the people in the other car were her Mom and Dad."
