For The Love Of Devon
by Joel R. Allen
A guardian angel beheld Gabriel's face
Full of mercy, full of grace
And posed a question asked by man
With hearts of grief on farther land.
"Why did the child placed in my care
Perish after brief time there?
Why did the child of mother's womb
Shed the cloak of mortal bloom?
Why must a room of patterned light
Once full of laughter, clear and bright
Stand so empty, dark, alone
To sadden hearts in Christian home?
The child, she lacked no care or love
'Twas taught to always look above
For guidance from our Lord Christ's hand
To supply protection in hostile land.
How can faith endure such a blow?
How can loved ones go on and know
That our Father hears them pray
Then look for strength through gathering day?
How can their hearts be ever mended?
How can their wounds be ever tended?
How can child's place be ever filled
With heart's dark earth so cruelly tilled?"
Then Gabriel, with arms unfurled
Gestured back towards the world
"See God's people?" He did ask
"Washed in blood from their pasts?
They are kings and queens divine
Cleansed with fire in their time
Perfected by the trials and cares
Of a world they do not share.
The grave puts no barrier in their way
That can hold them captive for one day
Fear has no web that it can weave
To bind their spirits up in grief.
No sword can make them suffer loss
Or worry hearts so sorely tossed
They would break upon that foreign land
Where tomb holds fear for mortal man.
To them, death is but a sad farewell
Until the ringing of Heaven's bell
And all the family is gathered in
Mother, father, children, friends.
No child dies that is not loved
By its' Father here above
And drawn within His glorious grace
For only children see His face.
As a sign that this is true
Think on the child that you once knew
How He signed his name upon her smile
Then let her go for a little while.
When He could stand her gone no more
He opened up His golden door
To call her home to Him again
Away from family, home and friends.
All who miss her sigh her name
Yet faith sustains them all the same
For they know that for awhile
Heaven touched them with her smile.
That God is real, that God is good
That things are going as they should
And proof has come with childish love
That their true home is here above.
Sometimes At Night
by Joel R. Allen
Sometimes at night
Late and alone
I find myself hurting
From moments gone wrong
Faces and voices
Of people I knew
Slip into dreams
Slide out of view
Though scars are all healed
From mistakes that were made
As Christ discredits all guilt
And fears are waylaid
Heartache is a cross
All Christians must bear
Who lay open their hearts
And willingly care
For children who suffer
Bravely through pain
Their dear gracious love
Finding no one to blame
For young people who laugh
At a world full of bones
Then reap darkly the harvest
Of seeds they have sown
For adults who's eyes
Have dulled with routine
Who's hearts have grown hardened
With possession of things
For people who search
But never do find
The key to the answer
Time after time
For these and for dear ones
My heart often break
Caring becomes
A weight hard to take
Yet I thank the Lord
For the fire sincere
That burns in my bosom
Fueled by my tears
For the nights I have cried
For the sweet ones I loved
Who slid into darkness
On innocent blood
And the cup that I drink from
Both bitter and sweet
Brings fulfillment in drinking
And makes me complete
Jesus, Sweet Jesus
by Yvonne Bailey
I need you everyday.
I need you Lord to guide me along the way
To hold my hand,
To be my friend,
To help me find your way, your plans.
To give me strength,
To build my faith,
I need you Lord in every case.
To choose my words to comfort a friend,
I need you Lord to Love again!
To heal my body,
To mend my soul,
I need you Jesus to make me whole.
Jesus, Sweet Jesus
I need you everyday,
because without you I would lose my way.
Unnamed
by Timothy Rushing
Today comes the end of trouble for me ,The Lord heard my prayer and he set me free,
Even when dark He helps me to see, Today comes the end of trouble for me.
Today comes the end of heartache and pain, Today comes the joy that I've longed to gain,
Promises from above, take not in vain, Today comes the end of heartache and pain.
Today the Lord told me that He loves me so, He gave his life for me this I know,
Without Him would be no rain, shine or snow, that's how I know that He loves me so.
The end of the world but I will not fear, Heaven awaits, the times growing near,
Study God's word, for that is your gear, fear not the journey, fear God and know fear.
The end comes today and I'm leaving this place, the end comes quickly and without a trace,
Ready or not, prepare for His grace, The end comes today, I'm leaving this place.
Today comes the end of darkness and shame, we can all be free by just calling His name,
Father deliver me, I'm ready to go, Thank you my Lord for loving me so!
The Silver Cord is Loosened
by Judith Bronte
"Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken...
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit
shall return unto God who gave it."
~ Ecclesiastes 12:6,7 ~
The silver cord is loosened,
The golden bowl is cleaved.
Your soul has just departed,
And I am now bereaved.
Though my heart is heavy,
Weighing down my breast,
With anticipation - I wait,
For the day I too find rest.
Let not these tears entice -
Thee to return to me.
For thy rest is sweeter,
Than this earth could ever be.
