Broken Dreams
Author Unknown
As children bring their broken toys
with tears for us to mend
I brought my broken dreams to God
because He is my friend.
But then, instead of leaving Him
in peace to work alone
I hung around and tried to help
with ways that were my own.
At last I snatched them back and cried,
"How can you be so slow?"
"My child," He said, "What could I do...
you never did let go."
Cherished Friends
Author Unknown
God must have known there would be times
We'd need a word of cheer
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.
He must have known we'd need to share
The joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.
I think he knew our troubled hearts
Would sometimes throb with pain
At trials and misfortunes
Or some goals we can't attain.
He knew we'd need the comfort
Of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
To make a fresh, new start.
He knew we'd need companionship
Unselfish...lasting...true,
And so God answered the heart's great need
With cherished friends....like you.
Confidence in Trial
F.E. Hathway
Do Thou, Lord Jesus, ever be
An ever present help to me;
Inspire with confidence and trust,
For without Thee I am but dust.
No works of mine could bring me near;
Thy precious blood alone, I hear
Has cleansed and brought me unto God,
And fitted me for realms above.
But I am here; dost Thou descry
A failing worm, Lord, such as I?
Dost Thou not see, and hast not said
Elijah was by ravens fed.
Lord! May I learn to lean on Thee,
To Thee in every trouble flee.
Aye, let me stay close by Thy side,
Though good or evil may betide.
I'm saved by Thee, Lord, not to live
Unto myself, but I would give
My heart, my life, my all to Thee
Who loved and gave Thyself for me.
Death Of An Innocent
Author Unknown
I went to a party Mom, I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead.
I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you were always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight.
As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet.
I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road
the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load.
As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say,
the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay.
I'm lying here dying, Mom. I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time.
I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink.
It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think.
He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is he drank and I will die.
Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life.
I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare.
Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.
I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye.
I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die?
Elijah's God Still Lives
Rev. W. Grum
Elijah made a sacrifice
To offer to Jehovah;
It had been wet with water thrice,
Baal's sacrifice was over;
Elijah pray'd, the fire came down,
And lick'd the water all around,
And doubting ones believ'd and found
Elijah's God was living.
Elijah's God still lives today
And answers still by fire;
My friend, just let Him have His way,
He'll grant your heart's desire,
Consume the sacrifice you make
And bid your slumb'ring soul awake,
And chains of inbred sin will break,
Elijah's God is living.
Elijah's God still lives today,
To take the guilt of sin away;
And when I pray my heart's desire,
Upon my soul He sends down fire.
Unbroken Silence
The Prayer of Saint Brigid
John Marshall
Lo, unbroken silence, I adore thee.
Forsake me not during my time of prayer.
Guardian angels, convene around me.
Lord, humbly my heart pleads solely to be
safe by your side through eternity there.
Lo, unbroken silence, I adore thee.
Traveling onward, cloaked by a desert sea,
into the sky but for a sign I stare.
Guardian angels convene around me.
Utter stillness of the night, come free me.
Starlight, guide me across the sand so bare.
Lo, unbroken silence, I adore thee.
Dedicated to the Holy Trinity,
this fervent journey by moonlight I dare.
Guardian angels, convene around me.
Shimmering dreams foretell that I may see
the path God has chosen for me with such care.
Lo, unbroken silence, I adore thee.
Guardian angels convene around me.
